FAQs
What should I bring with me to my procedure?
On the day of your procedure, please bring:
- Your insurance card, photo ID, & copayment (if required)
- A list of current medications & allergies
- A copy of your advance directive (if you have one)
Do I take my blood pressure or heart medications on the day of the procedure?
Yes, you may take your prescribed medications with a small sip of water–unless instructed otherwise by your physician’s office.
How should I dress on the day of my procedure?
Dress in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Wear a two-piece outfit with a short-sleeved shirt. You may also want to bring a sweater or light jacket with you. Wear comfortable and supportive footwear. Avoid heels or flip-flops. Do not wear bulky jewelry.
May I wear perfume or lotion during my procedure?
No, for the comfort and safety of our patients, we are a fragrance-free facility. You and your driver should not wear perfumes, scented lotions or oils the day of your procedure.
May I use chewing gum, hard candy or chewing tobacco on my procedure day?
No, these items are not permitted in the 5 hours prior to a sedated procedure. They have the ability to increase saliva and gastric secretions. Serious medical complications are associated with patients who do not have an empty stomach. The use of these items will cause a delay or cancellation of your procedure.
Do I need to arrive early for my procedure?
Yes, please arrive one hour early. You will also receive a reminder notification via text/email to confirm your procedure and arrival time. Occasionally, fluctuations in the schedule occur and you may be requested to arrive earlier or later than originally scheduled.
After my procedure, will I be able to return to work or school?
Most patients can resume normal activities the following day. Returning to work or school after a sedated procedure is not recommended. Operating a motor vehicle or power equipment is not permitted for 24 hours following the procedure. Discharge instructions will be provided to you. Please read and follow them carefully.
May I bring someone back with me before the procedure?
No, due to HIPAA privacy regulations, only patients are permitted in the procedure area. However, someone may be with you in the post-operative area.
How long does the endoscopic procedure take?
You should plan to be at our facility for 90 minutes due to the pre- and post-procedure process, as well as any unforeseen schedule fluctuations.
May I drive myself home after my procedure?
No, if you are receiving sedation during your procedure, you may not drive for 24 hours after the procedure—you must have a driver to bring you home.
Can I have my procedure during my menstrual cycle?
Yes, and tampons can be worn.
